This is how we snack!

We love picnics around here….a little platter with a bunch of different snacks is a great way I find to get the kids to eat. And eat healthy at that, though sometimes we add some little *treats* in too for fun. I made up this fruit platter for them and some friends a few weeks ago and loved how it looked. There’s just something about fresh fruit and how the colours pop together. Doesn’t it look pretty…and Delicious!!!! The kids…

Holy Crap – *Review*

I first saw Holy Crap Cereal on Dragon’s Den (I watch it every week!) claiming to be *the world’s most amazing breakfast cereal* and I knew I had to try it! Holy Crap is made with Organic Chia, Hulled Hemp Hearts, Organic Buckwheat, Organic Cranberries, Organic Raisins, Apple Bits, Organic Cinnamon. That’s it. NOTHING else. AND it’s WHEAT FREE, GLUTEN FREE, LACTOSE FREE, and VEGAN! It’s high in iron, high in dietary fiber, rich in Omega 3, Omega 6, and…

In my salad bowl…

I love a good salad, filled with a little of everything. I can be satisfied, full, and sustained from a great salad. I have a few salad dressings that I rotate between (most of them homemade) so I don’t ever feel like it’s the *same old* thing (though I can honestly say I’ve never felt that way anyways). I remember a friend growing up commenting to me that her mom never really ventured into new territory when it came to…

Proof…

That not everything I make is a *roaring success* LOL **I blame facebook…I put the grilled cheese on the stove and ran down to check something and promptly forgot all about it – until the burning aroma filled my nostrils and I bolted up the stairs.** **okay so maybe that still makes it my fault…but I’d rather blame facebook**…

Carmel Popcorn

This is my FAVORITE Carmel Popcorn recipe EVER!!! It’s my mom’s (or where I got it from anyways) and she swears by the Eagle Brand milk making it so yummy. Whatever it is, it’s delicious…and gooey….and just the way I like it. 2 1/4 cups brown sugar 1/2 cup butter 1 can eagle brand milk 1 cup corn syrup 4-5 batches of popcorn Cook first 4 ingredients to almost soft ball stage then add 1/2-1 tsp vanilla and salt –…

‘Tis the season…

For TREATS!!! While I’m not personally doing a whole swack of Christmas baking this year (I know, a shame) I thought I’d share some of my favorite recipes…perfect for time with the family, a potluck party item, or to take a plate over to friends and neighbours. And some perfect for warm meals while huddled in from the cold. First Up: TOBLERONE FUDGE! My sister in law was the one who discovered this recipe and am I ever glad she…

Broccoli Cheese Soup

I told you – it’s soup weather! I’ve never made this before and have always wanted to try it, so when I saw this recipe on the page opposite the Tomato soup one I had to give it a shot! 1 1/2 lbs fresh broccoli 2 Tbsp butter or margarine (I used margarine) 2 (14 1/2 oz) cans chicken broth 1 cup light cream 1 medium onion, chopped, 1 potato, pared and diced 1/2 tsp salt 1 1/2 cups grated…

The way to a man’s heart is…

through his stomach! Or at least that’s one of the way’s to my man’s! Planning a holiday with the kids for 3 weeks, and knowing that Brent would be tired after work and more than likely not motivated to make dinner, and of course wanting to give him a taste of my home cooking even while gone….I pulled the *best wife of the year* card and made him meals ahead of time (ie the day before. lol) so that he…
