Collicutt Centre *Review*

In July I spent a couple of nights in Red Deer with my cousin, on my way to Drayton Valley for a week. She was shooting a wedding and I was watching her son (along with my kids) for the day. Wanting something fun to do that would take a good chunk of the day, we decided on swimming at the Collicutt Centre. I wasn’t really sure what to expect at first, but hoped it would be a fun and relatively easy activity to do with 3 kids (Brooklyn, almost 7 and Jonah and my *nephew*, almost 4).

I couldn’t have been more thrilled. We spent about 4 1/2 hours in the pool and had a BLAST! We spent most of our time in the kiddie pool (think playground in knee deep water) – because I had 3 to keep an eye on, I had each kid in water wings. Honestly, just for peace of mind should any of them even slip and get a little freaked out or hurt, etc. It was so nice, especially as we ventured down the lazy river and even into the wave pool at one point – when the waves weren’t on, of course! Some *near drowning* experiences as a kid in wave pools (not this one) have left me freaked out, so I wasn’t about to venture in with 3 little ones and hope for the best. Though I could see everyone having a blast in the waves and the pool walls weren’t as high as the one I went to as a kid (I’m telling you, not being able to touch the bottom or grasp the top of the wall during a wave is a frightening experience) so I could already tell it was a better set up. We did, however, find a fun little cove of sorts with a bench seat around the edge that the kids stood on, and we were able to enjoy the waves in there. We got *gently* ROCKED….and LOVED it!

It was seriously a fantastic way to spend the day and definitely something I plan to do again with the kids.
