I woke up as a fiancée, and went to bed a wife!
I have always believed in the fairytale – I know I’m not among many – but I also always believed that I had to be the fairytale I wanted. I had to be the same things I wanted. So I spent time developing myself….making sure I took chances, lived up the opportunities, and did things – so that when the time came I would be ready. And you know, I was. I was 21 1/2 (May 2002) when Brent and I met….and, believe it or not, we were married just 2 weeks after my 22nd birthday! I guess when you know, you know! Actually, if you want the truth – we met in April, but he ignored me for a month…seriously, legitimately ignored me. See, he had moved to Calgary (where I grew up) to become a hermit….to work and get school done…he had nothing else on his mind. oops. *giggles* So here’s the thing….we adjusted to married life really smoothly. It just worked. We had enough similarities to make being together easy, and enough differences to make it interesting. And FUN! We have always enjoyed being together and still, 9 years later, we make each other laugh. We communicate well, have similar goals and dreams – and where we differ we share the desire to help the other achieve theirs. We love helping each other, making each other smile….and making life easier for the other. Brent is incredibly helpful with the house, with the kids, with everything. He spent 7 years in school for his degree because he was also working part time…so that I could be at home with the kids. It wasn’t just important to me, it was important to him. And he never complained. And any time someone needs help, he drops what he’s doing. It’s just who he is. And it’s one of the many things I adore about him. It’s true…9 years later and still I adore this man! So what does this mean??? Next year is TEN, of course!!! Oh my, what will we do to celebrate? Well I have a vacation planned – a family vacation…what exactly I’m not sure, as there are quite a few options floating through my vacay-loving brain! In an ideal world I’d love to do one smaller family getaway per month in the lead up to our 10th anniversary – with a big one to really celebrate! Can you imagine the travel reviews!!!! Well, let’s see what we can work out, shall we. 🙂 In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy the beginning of the next best year of being married!!!! It really does only get better (I warned you ahead of time!) and I am definitely living my fairytale!
